Freedom Town Meeting – Saturday, March 16th, 2024

Articles 1 through 6 had been voted on Tuesday, March 12th, 2024

The second part of Town Meeting was held on Saturday, March 16th, to deal with the remaining Warrant Articles 7 through 38.

Articles 7 (renovate) and 8 (build new) – were bond articles requiring a 3/5th majority vote to pass.

There were 224 voters that went through the voter list – requiring a total of 135 votes to pass.

Article 7 received 130 Yes votes and 94 No votes.    [Failing by 5 votes for the 3/5 majority]

Article 8 received 52 Yes votes and 171 No votes (with one ballot left blank).

The Selectmen indicated that this vote would give them a clear direction as to how to proceed; more detailed plans and actual money numbers should be available for next year’s town meeting.

Article 34 – the warrant article had requested $10,000 to go in to the Highway Equipment Capital Reserve Fund previously established: the amount was raised to $75,000.00, in order to buy a new chipper – because the old one ‘died’ between the budget hearing and town meeting:  the amended Article 34 passed.

Article 37 – the petitioned Warrant Article requesting $4000.00 for the Freedom Village Store failed.

All other warrant articles passed as written.

The meeting started at approximately 9:25 am, after a delayed start getting the voters in to the meeting and obtaining their voting cards – and ended at 2:25 pm.    [The polls had to be open a full hour for the Bond articles voting.]
